With the recent addition of the Frederic C. Hamilton Building in October 2006, the Denver Art Museum has become a landmark for Denver’s beauty and modernism. The museum originated in the 1890’s as the Denver Artists’ Club and then grew to a museum in 1949. In the 1950’s a children’s art activity area was added and in 1971, what is now know as the North Building was added. The museum now stretches over 356,000-square-feet area for endless art exploration in three temporary exhibition venues, collection gallery space, and the Lewis I. Sharp Auditorium. Our family- friendly environment is internationally recognized and we have been critically acclaimed for encouraging art appreciation through hands-on activities. Visit us today for an imaginative exploration of art and architecture. If you happen to be in town on the first Saturday of the month, admission is free, leaving you no excuse to miss all that the Denver Art Museum has to offer.
